In the post…

A exciting week is ahead for me as today was my first day in my new job (lovely people and fab office – good start!). I’ve still got a pretty serious commute so plenty of time for reading (currently I’m totally absorbed in The Song of Achilles, by Madeline Miller) and possibly blogging as I have a nice light laptop courtesy of work.

So it’s just a quick post today to share some lovely arrivals in the post:

Firstly, I was delighted to receive a lovely new edition of The Master and Margarita, by Mikhail Bulgakov and The Intelligent Woman’s Guide: To Socialism, Capitalism, Sovietism and Fascism, by George Bernard Shaw (both Alma Classics) – I’m hoping that The… Guide is one that I can just dip into rather than read cover to cover as I do normally prefer novels, however I do also love George Bernard Shaw. Also a copy of My Brilliant Friend, by Elena Ferrante which looks dauntingly chunky but interesting.

I’m very excited about my tickets to Sleeping Beauty. I’ve seen a couple of other Matthew Bourne’s adaptations courtesy of Mr Savidge Reads and really enjoyed them. Plus it’s just the thing for the Christmas season.

Finally, the DVD of Jane Eyre, arrived from Love Film so that’ll be one to curl up with at the end of my busy week 🙂

Has anyone read or seen any of my new arrivals?

  1. Best of luck at your job! For a reader a commute is not such a bad thing. I enjoyed Jane Eyre, and Judi Dench’s humour adds a lot to it. The theatre at Christmas is wonderful, and especially just before it. I find it adds to the overall excitement, even after the curtain falls.

  2. Good luck with the new job; sounds like you’re off to a great start! I’m very much enjoying The Song of Achilles too – looking forward to discussing it. How exciting you’ll be seeing Sleeping Beauty! I’ll be keen to hear what you think. All your new books look fab. I very much enjoyed the Jane Eyre film – you’re in for a treat 🙂

  4. Oooh I loved that version of Jane Eyre, you are in for an absolute treat there and no mistake. I am also incredibly jealous of your Sleeping Beauty tickets, that will be fabulous.

  5. Ooo, still haven’t seen the new(ish) Jane Eyre – let us know whether it’s worth a watch! We saw Matthew Bournes Nutcracker a couple of years back and it was absolutely amazing; hope you have as much fun as we did!

  6. Ooo nice selection, very exciting! Good to hear you’re loving The Song of Achilles just as much as everyone else. I read it on holiday and was completely whisked away. I adore the new edition of The Master and Margarita. We read this for Manc Book Club earlier in the year and, although you need to invest some of your brain cells in it, it has been our favourite selection by far. Just amazing.
