Widget You’ll Love: Top Books On The Day You Were Born…

I found this little wonder on Pages of Hackney blog.

Go here (or click on the image below) to visit BiblioOZ.com’s brilliant little widget which tells you the top New York Times bestsellers in the week of your birth.

Biblioz Birthday Books Widget

My list betrays that I’m a child of the 80’s, with Jane Fonda’s Workout Book, a book about Princess Di, and E.T. The Extra-Terrestrial. There’s also a rather saucy book entitled How to Make Love to a Woman.

The only author I’ve read from the list oddly is Stephen King and I’ve never heard of Different Seasons which randomly has really good reviews on Amazon.

What books will be on your list?

  1. “Jane Fonda’s Workout Book” – nice!

I’m surprised at how many familiar authors appear on the list. I’d have expected a lot more obscurity. Perhaps I’m wrong in assuming someday readers will almost completely forgot about today’s bestsellers…

    • Hahaha I know! And randomly timely for New Years fitness resolutions. I was actually surprised at how I didn’t recognise the authors for the most part but you’re right, I suppose alot of bestsellers do pass into obscurity over time.

  2. Wow, this list takes me back. I’ve actually read quite a few of them as I was in my university days in the 80’s — and yes, many of them are best left to obscurity. 😉 I’m off now to see what my own list will be. Thanks for the fun link!

  3. I love it! I’m showing just how old I am now but #1 when I was born was The Exorcist!

  4. Thanks for the link! Different Seasons is a great book. It has four novellas, including two favourites of mine: “The Body” and “Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption,” The latter is especially good. They’ve both been made into movies (entitled “Stand by Me” and “The Shawshank Redemption,” respectively). From your above list, I’ve only read two. Different Seasons and Shel Silverstein’s A Light in the Attic, which I also love.

My birthday list is much older, and I have no idea about those books, lol.

    • Ah wow, such famous stories in that little book which have been made into movies of course. I’ll have to see if I can pick up a copy.

  5. Fun, fun! It turns out the top book the year I was born was Jonathan Livingston Seagull, and there are lots of things like “I’m Ok, You’re Ok” and similar feel-good pop psychology on my list.

And I probably contributed to E.T.’s appearing on your list. I know I owned the novelization of the screenplay (and practically anything else E.T.-related I could convince my parents to buy me).

  6. Ken Follett was the only one I’d read on my list. Betty Crocker made it too – yum!

  7. Snap! I blogged about this, too.

My list was really interesting, filled with all those white male American writers from the 60s (woops, showing my age).

PS> I have read “Different Seasons” — I was such a Stephen King fan in my teens and early 20s!!

  8. Jane Fonda’s Workout was number one when I was born so it must have sold amazingly to still be at number two five months later!!!!

    • Hahaha, she was one popular lady! I wonder how many people actually did the exercises after buying the book though…
