I do love getting parcels don’t you? I haven’t bought myself any brand new books in quite a while so I savoured opening the delicious parcel of books that were waiting for me at home yesterday. Here they are:
- Brixton Beach by Roma Tearne (going to Sri Lanka this year)
- Wolf Hall by Hilary Mantel (read some glowing reviews of this and I love books set in this period, oh and the Man Booker accolade helped too!)
- The Weight of a Mustard Seed by Wendell Steavenson (for Riverside Readers book-group)
- The Girl that Played with Fire by Stieg Larsson (loved the first one!)
And I popped into the library on an unsuccessful trip to get a copy of Ursula le Guin’s Dispossessed for my book group at work and came out with these cook-books… whoops!

Novel Insights 
I’m very jealous of your trip to Sri Lanka – I’d love to go there! I’m afraid I haven’t had much success with the books that you’ve bought, but hopefully you’ll enjoy them more than I did.
It’s a fascinating place – have been once before. I think I might read the books first and then read your reviews just in case… 🙂
Ooooh I have a spare copy of Brixton Beach you should have said lol. Wolf Hall is marvellous (especially if you have a long flight planned in the future – or a weekend with a pair of strange people in a caravan hahaha) I am looking forward to seeing what everyone makes of the next book group choice.
Whoops! Oh well, I needed to spend my Amazon vouchers from Christmas 🙂 Can’t wait to read Wolf Hall although am going to struggle getting round to it as usual….
The only one of these that I have read so far is Wolf Hall, which I really enjoyed and far more than I was expecting to.
I have Cook with Jamie (well, it’s my boyfriend’s) and his steak with red wine reduction and parmesan mash (is called something else but you’ll find it by looking up steak) is to. die. for. (seriously, it’s that good).
That was lazy of me … I had the book on the shelf behind me! It’s p158 – recipe says olive oil mash but even with the little parmesan it calls for, it is cheesy goodness 🙂
Fabulous recommendation. I’m planning to get reading it this weekend and cooking hopefully too, so perhaps I’ll give that steak a go!! I’m looking forward to reading Wolf Hall 🙂
